Here are a number of ways to think and act as business leaders.
🗣Communicate 🗣
Leaders: Communicate clearly, early and often
Use one agreed communication channel and inform the teams of:
The what,
The why,
The when,
The how (where applicable)
If you believe some of these will change, make the promise to keep teams informed it is up for review
Survey and understand how people are feeling, report the findings back and commit to help address the problems brought up
♥️ Mental & Physical Health ♥️
Employers and management you have a duty of care to support everyone
Mental health is essential, employers step up, offer support, partner with the right centres, therapists and there are many starts up that can help
If you are struggling, speak up, your wellbeing and mental health are essential. Everyone, absolutely everyone needs support. The most senior to the most junior have all struggled and will be struggling. Please do not suffer in silence.
If you do not have a good relationship or support network, there are many external companies and charities that are here to help
Managers if you are feeling the strain, it is essential you speak to those around you and leverage your management team or HR team
Create a support network, buddy system if you are large enough
Video call fatigue is a real strain, get off video, use phone calls, use writing, use voice notes
Encourage walking and breathing exercises. Physical health is an essential part of any high performing person
👩💻Policy 👩💻
Policies will have to be flexible - management teams review ASAP
Schedules will have to flexible for all - enable core hours but encourage managers and department heads to manage accordingly
Many members of staff are working from home or a family home, be aware of their location and enable additional support where required
Do not force leadership into or return to the office, leadership isn't being in the office or being constantly visible
Performance of employees will fluctuate, be supportive, and don't default to micromanagement and performance manage. Provide support and spend time discussing potential issues and roadblocks
